The 19th Chengdu Cherry Festival kicked off on Apr.2 in Pujiang county in southwestern Chengdu.
The festival, to last till May 5, features cherry hand-picking, sightseeing tours, photo shows and colorful activities such as the music party, the tea ceremony and fraternity party for young people from other parts of China who have come to live and work in Chengdu.
The venue of the opening ceremony, the Cherry Mountain, boasts an area of over 1, 300 hectares of cherry trees, and the harvest season starts in early April.
As the favorite fruit in late spring and early summer, cherries are liked by Chengdu people for their alluring bright red colors, cute size, sweet and sour tastes. Their short-lived harvest period gives rise to wistfulness over the transience of beautiful things.
