Earlier at the end of 2016, Chengdu was selected by National Geographic as one of the 21 "Best of the World" destinations for 2017, the only Chinese city on the list.
Chengdu has gained the titles in recent years as follows:

Chengdu welcomed 2.48 million inbound and outbound tourists during the 2017 New Year's Day holiday, with a total revenue of RMB2.36 billion from the travel sector.
Chengdu was one of the Top 10 one-day domestic tourist destinations during the May Day holiday from April 29 to May 1 in 2017.
Chengdu topped the rankings of the most popular B&B destination fastest-growing destination in the first half of 2017, according to B&B booking platform
Chengdu hosted UNWTO's 22nd General Assembly Sept.11-16.
Chengdu ranked as the world's second fastest-growing destination city between 2009 and 2016, according to the 2017 Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.
A report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in October listed Chengdu in the 5th place among the fastest-growing tourism cities, with its annual growth of revenue from tourism at 11.2%.
The 14th Chengdu International Food & Tourism Festival and the 7th Slow Food International Congress took place Sept. 29-Oct. 8 in the city, with the participation of over three million visitors from home and abroad.
The 2017 Chengdu Food and Culture Festival was launched in the San Francisco Bay Area on Oct.31 and lasted about two weeks.
According to a research report on foreign tourists' perceptions of and attitudes toward cities in China, jointly issued by Google and Ipsos, Chengdu was selected as one of China's top 10 most charming cities.
