AccorHotels announced the launch of Clear Your Plate campaign in Greater China on April 21. The aim is to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste.
"According to UN statistics, one third of the annual food production worldwide ― almost 1.3 billion tonnes ― is lost or wasted, and just one quarter of this wasted food would be enough to end the world hunger, which affects 795 million people," said Michel Molliet, Chief Operating Officer of AccorHotels Greater China, "Our hotels are promoting Clear Your Plate campaign in over 100 buffet restaurants and public areas as well as in staff canteens, with the aim to invite guests and local communities to join us to focus on the whole issue of food waste."
The one-month campaign, running from April 21 to May 19, is in line with the direction of PLANET 21, AccorHotels' global sustainable development programme launched in 2011. The second phase (2016-2020) of the PLANET 21 programme covers four action areas involving employees, customers, partners and local communities, with the priority on food & beverage. By the year 2020, the group aims to reduce food waste in all of its restaurants by 30%.
