As the World Book and Copyright Day 2020 is coming up, Sichuan Children's Publishing House released a panda themed picture book called PANDA HI on Apr. 16.
The giant panda, a Chinese cultural symbol, is named the "living fossil" and "national treasure of China". And Sichuan Province in southwestern China is a main habitat of the creature, where more and more multiple panda elements can be seen: panda themed animations, films, clothes brand and related products. But it is rare to find an "autobiographical" picture book of giant panda' growing-up.
The published PANDA HI is a complement to that. The book tells the life of a captive giant panda called Panda Hi, whose registered name is Fu Xing, from its birth to independent living, as well as scientific knowledge about the giant panda. The book narrates in first person of Panda Hi with lots of funny self-confessions.
Yuan yuan, writer and painter of the picture book, is a cultural relic restorer in Sichuan Museum, good at drawing pictures of animals, especially the giant panda. Her panda themed pictures are included in Giant Panda Pictorial Annals.
In order to introduce the lovely creature to more people around the world, Sichuan Children's Publishing House is translating the picture book into English.
