The 22nd World Routes was held in Chengdu on September 24th - 27th, with the attendance of hundreds of airlines, airports, government agencies and global organizations from all over the world, making Chengdu the second Chinese city to host the event after Beijing.
During the World Routes 2016, Adrian Newton, group director of UBM (the organizer of World Routes) said the yield of the World Routes is very high. People can see the initial benefits of the event in Chengdu, which has signed agreements on the opening of 9 new international regular flights with airlines from across the globe. According to the past World Routes events, there will be more international routes between Chengdu and other parts of the world in the near future.
In 2015, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport saw its passenger throughput hitting 40 million, which made it rank fourth among all airports in the Chinese mainland. In the first half of 2016, its growth rate of international (regional) passenger throughput reached 36.6%, and its total number of international passengers is expected to reach over 5 million this year. By September 27th, Chengdu had launched 91 international/regional air routes, covering key air hubs in North America, Europe, Middle East, Oceania and Asia. Chengdu has become the aviation hub linking central and western China and other parts of the world.
