The Badshahi Mosque
The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, commissioned by the sixth Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671 and completed in 1673, is the second largest mosque in Pakistan and South Asia, and the fifth largest mosque in the world. Epitomising the beauty, passion and grandeur of the Mughal era, it is Lahore's most famous landmark and a major tourist attraction.
The Lahore Fort
The Lahore Fort is citadel of the city of Lahore. It is located in the northwestern corner of the Walled City of Lahore in Iqbal Park which is one of the largest urban parks in Pakistan. The trapezoidal composition is spread over 20 hectares.
The Shalimar Gardens
The Shalimar Gardens of Lahore are a UNESCO world heritage site. Sometimes written as Shalamar Gardens, the Shalimar Gardens are a Mughal garden complex located in Lahore. Construction of the complex began in 1641 and was completed the following year. The meaning of the word 'Shalimar' is a mystery. It is probably of Arabic or Persian origin as asserted by Anna Suvorova in her book Lahore: Topophilia of Space and Place. The Shalimar Gardens are located near Baghbanpura along the Grand Trunk Road some 5 kilometers northeast of the main Lahore City.
The Lahore Museum
The Lahore Museum was originally established on the site of the Punjab Exhibition and later shifted to its present site located on The Mall, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan in 1894. The current building of the museum was designed by well-known architect Sir Ganga Ram. It is the biggest museum of the country, which contains some fine specimens of Mughal and Sikh door-ways and wood-work and has a large collection of paintings dating back to the Mughal, Sikh and British periods. It includes a collection of musical instruments, ancient jewelry, textiles, pottery, and armory.
