On October 21, Chengdu signed a letter of intent on establishing a friendly and cooperative tie with the City of Gold Coast, Australia.
“This is my second time to be in Chengdu. The city is like a friend to me whom I always want to see again,” said Mr.Tom Tate, the mayor of the City of Gold Coast, Australia, to the Chengdu Daily. He expressed that he really likes Chengdu and he is highly optimistic about the future cooperation between Chengdu and the City of Gold Coast. He thinks both parties could share the unique ideas and concepts of urban development of each other in the aspects of urban construction, education and tourism.
In Mr. Tate’s view, education is a significant area for the mutual cooperation. International students are ambassadors of friendship. Currently, around 5000 Chinese students are studying in Gold Coast. He expects more Chengdu students could go to Gold Coast to study and enhance the friendship between the two cities. He also hopes more sister schools can be established between the two cities, to further integrate the educational resources of the two parties.
“Chengdu is a beautiful and fascinating city, ” noted Mr. Tate, adding that he hopes the two cities could open a direct air link to boost the mutual partnership in the travel industry.
