High-speed trains between Beijing and the southwestern city of Chengdu in Sichuan province started running on Jan 1, 2015, cutting the travel time to 14.5 hours, according to the Chengdu railway administration. Currently, the fastest train between the two cities takes 23 hours.
The G308 train left Chengdu East Station at 7:00 am on Jan 1, passing through 15 stations in Chongqing municipality, and Hubei, Henan and Hebei provinces, and arrived at Beijing West Station at 9:42 pm.
The train G307 from Beijing West to Chengdu East departed at 8:35 am on Jan 2.
A second class seat on the train costs RMB864 (approx. US$140), first class costs RMB1242 (approx. US$200.32) and business class costs RMB2672.5 (approx. US$431.05). So far, all second class seats have been fully booked.
