Guido Tielman: Chengdu is My Second Hometown

On April 29, Guido Tielman, consul general of the Netherlands in Chongqing, held his farewell press conference in Chengdu before leaving office. He returned to his home country one week later.
The Chengdu-Europe express rail cargo service, and Chengdu's fast developing automotive industry, lovely giant pandas, innovative bookstore Fang Suo Commune and distinctive tea house inside the Wenshu Monastery ... All of these have been imprinted in the mind of Mr. Tielman, who took office as the consul general of the Netherlands in Chongqing in August 2013. "I came to Chengdu soon after I took office. During my two-year term, I have been to the city for at least more than 50 times. I can say that Chengdu is my second hometown." During his term, Mr. Tielman had been exerting himself to facilitate the exchanges and cooperation between the Netherlands and Chengdu in the areas of hi-tech innovation, business and trade, auto manufacturing, energy, tourism and education.
Offering Practical Help to Dutch Companies in Chengdu, and Looking forward to Coming of Two Giant Pandas in the Netherlands
"Many big Dutch companies take Chengdu as their headquarters in western China. Dulux, Phillips, Shell, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and others have expanded their businesses in western China based on Chengdu. They have not only set up offices but also established production facilities here. I feel a real sense of accomplishment that I helped substantially Dutch companies in Sichuan and Chengdu with expanding their business presence here."
During his term, Mr. Tielman made an in-depth study on Chengdu's industries with strong advantages. In his view, the Chengdu-Europe express rail cargo service is key to the logistics between Europe and Asia, and will further the business and trade partnership between the Netherlands and Sichuan and Chengdu. "Currently, many Dutch companies hope to expand their business via the service. We also actively provide them with relevant materials and information to help them to do business in Sichuan and Chengdu."
Mr. Tielman shared a thing he feels very proud of with the journalists at the press conference. "Two giant pandas from China will be sent to live in a Dutch zoo. Dutch people are looking forward to the arrival of them."They like giant pandas very much and have made good preparations for welcoming them."
