Chinese Company Launches Startup Accelerator in Israel

Authors: Go Chengdu

Chengdu-Israel Incubator (CII), a Chinese government-backed startup accelerator, will launch an offshoot in Haifa, a city in the north of Israel, next week.
CII is dedicated to facilitating business ties between Israeli tech entrepreneurs and companies in western China's Chengdu, said Ms. Tami Kfir who is head of CII and plays a leading role in the initiative.
"We are offering companies from Chengdu, that are not big enough to establish offices in Israel, the opportunity to have representation here and also offering Israeli companies chances if they want to do business in China," Ms. Kfir said.
For the launch of its branch in Haifa, CII will host a competition for startups at next week's Israel-China Hi-Tech Investment Summit in the city. The winner will be invited to Chengdu to involve in the local business ecosystem.
According to Ms. Kfir, Israeli startups used to choose such large Chinese cities as Beijing and Shanghai when they tried to make inroads in China. She would encourage them to consider Chengdu, a major city in western China with a population of nearly 16 million.
"There are a lot of hi-tech entrepreneurs and startups in Chengdu," said Ms. Kfir, adding that Chinese businesses are increasingly interested in Israel's tech industries such as life sciences and big data.
