Recently, Recife, Brazil, and Chengdu signed an agreement on establishing a sister-city relationship. The Chengdu Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office announced the news on October 10.
According to the agreement, both parties will conduct cooperation in business and trade, tourism, environmental protection, science and technology, culture, and education, as well as people-to-people exchange.
Located on the coast of Atlantic Ocean, Recife is the capital of Pernambuco, Brazil. Geographically well-positioned and having a population of 4.1 million, the port city is a famous tourist destination in Brazil and is abundant in seafood and tropical fruits.
Recife is acclaimed as the Venice of Brazil for a number of islands, rivers, waterways and bridges that crisscross the city. As a renowned historical and cultural city, Recife is home to lots of famous universities, research institutes, museums, zoos and botanical gardens, and churches. Its industries include textiles, sugar and food processing, tobacco production, oil pressing and refining, chemistry, ship repair, cement and glass production, and metallurgy. The sugar sector and shipping business have long been the pillar industries of Recife and Pernambuco.
