Traditional customs were practised in Wangjiang Tower Park on the third day of third month of Chinese Lunar Calendar.
As described in Lun Yu (The Analects), in the late spring, when the spring clothes are ready, five or six adults and six or seven children would wear the new clothes and gather together for a bath in the Yi River, dance in spring breeze, and sing songs before returning home.
These traditional customs recurred in Chengdu Wangjiang Tower Park on this Shangsi Festival. Ladies and gentlemen in traditional Han-dynasty style costumes massed in this park, collecting spring water from the Well of Xue Tao, chanting poems on the side of the Liubei Pond, enjoying the spring banquet by the river, taking a warm shower with orchid petals floating on the surface of the water, in an attempt to put on stage the elegant and leisurely life of ancient Chengdu people, and renew the traditions of Shangsi Festival.
