The 3rd Annual Meeting of the MCSTO took place in Chengdu on Nov. 19.
Sponsored by the Monitoring Center for UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Observatories (MCSTO), the 3rd Annual Meeting of the MCSTO took place in Chengdu on November 19.
“Chengdu has achieved outstanding results in the sustainable development of the tourist industry, which are typical globally and have offered valuable experience for the sustainable growth of the sector worldwide,” said Bao Jigang, an official with the MCSTO. “The concept of sustainable development in the tourism has been rooted deeply in the minds of Chengdu people. The projects involving the Wide and Narrow Alleys and the Eastern Suburban Memory in the city center are perfect models which have revived the old urban and industrial areas through developing the tourist industry. The growth of Dujiangyan’s tourism plays a vital role in the local post-quake reconstruction and economic recovery. And the booming leisure agriculture in Chengdu’s eastern suburbs is a very good example to facilitate the urbanization while developing the tourist sector,” Mr. Bao noted.
Established in October 2012, the Chengdu Observatory On Sustainable Tourism World Tourism Organization of United Nations has significantly boosted the local tourist industry and its sustainable growth.
