On July 16, the Chengdu (Qingbajiang) railway port center started the rail freight service to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The cargo can be sent to the five Central Asian countries as fast as 9 days. It’s believed that the rail route can help improve regional connectivity and trade between western China and other countries in Europe and Central Asia.
Besides other goods, the first train also carried three cars made in Chengdu, achieving the first successful export of complete vehicles manufactured in the city. “The automobile industry has become one of the leading industries in Chengdu in recent years. The vehicles made in the city see a huge market potential in Central Asia. The launch of the freight train to Central Asia will fuel the city’s export growth,” said Wang Binwei, general manager from the company specializing in the cargo service between Chengdu and Central Asia.
Departing from Qingbaijiang in northeastern Chengdu, the train runs nine to eleven days, halving the previous running time. According to Wang, the train equipped with GPS tracking and temperature monitoring systems provides all logistics services and various modes of transportation.
