5th Int’l Science Fiction Conference to Take Place in Chengdu

Chengdu has been making great efforts over the recent years to develop the sci-fi culture industry.
The 5th China (Chengdu) International Science Fiction Conference will be staged between November 22 and 24 at Eastern Suburb Memory Park in downtown Chengdu, with the presence of many high-profile figures in the world and Chinese science fiction communities, including Hugo and Nebula winner Robert J Sawyer, famous Japanese SF writer and chief of the Japanese science fiction society Taiyo Fujii, Bill Lawhorn and other top officials from the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) bid committees, as well as celebrated Chinese sci-fi writers Liu Cixin, a Hugo Award winner, Wang Jinkang, He Xi and Han Song.

Since 1991 when the China Science Fiction Conference was initiated, the sci-fi event has been held for four times, and became biennial in 2017. Themed "Multiple Fantasy, Colorful Future," this year's edition of the event will present an opening ceremony, two major theme activities (2019 Sci-fi Summit & Asian Sci-fi Meeting and the awarding ceremony for Galaxy Awards), and a series of forums focusing on science fiction.
Chengdu has been making great efforts over the recent years to develop the sci-fi culture industry. Dubbed as the Capital of Science Fiction in China, Chengdu is the cradle of Science Fiction World, China's most popular sci-fi magazine, which has cultivated quite a few sci-fi writers like Liu Cixin, Wang Jinkang and He Xi. It made a formal bid to host the 81st Worldcon in 2023 at the 77th edition of the event which took place in Dublin, Ireland.
