Pécs—Close Ties with Chengdu

The beautiful European country Hungary has many cities worthy of visiting, and Pécs, a city in the southwest of the country, is one of them.

Pécs

Like Chengdu, Pécs is a historical and cultural city, and both cities share much in common and have maintained close ties in the past years. The media delegation from Chengdu visited Pécs on Jan. 16 (local time) and had the chance to interview Dr. Pava Zsolt, Mayor of Pécs, Decsi Istvan, Deputy Mayor of Pécs and Dr. BODIS Jozsef, President of the University of Pécs.

Dr. Pava Zsolt said Chengdu and Pécs had accelerated pace of mutual exchanges with the increasing communication between China and Hungary. Pécs and Chengdu signed a memorandum on establishing the friendly and cooperative tie in May, 2014 and the two cities have been developing mutual exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as innovation and education.

Communication and Exchange

Last June, a delegation from Pécs attended the China (Chengdu) Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair in Chengdu and had a deep impression of the city. This year, Deputy Mayor of Pécs Decsi Istvan will lead a delegation to the event again. He wished the visit will promote the cooperation of the two cities on wine and agriculture.

The two cities also have considerable opportunities for collaboration in education. As the oldest university in Hungary, the University of Pécs has prominence in terms of its scientific research achievement. Dr. BODIS Jozsef, President of University of Pécs said they are proud of attracting thousands of overseas students to study in the university, which welcomes students from China and Chengdu.
