Chengdu is a vibrant city, known for its historical charm, cultural heritage and natural beauty. As the provincial capital of Sichuan, Chengdu is enlivened by its ethnic diversity and cultural fusion that lies at the heart of the city. With a total area of about 12,000 sq. km, Chengdu is one of the largest cities in Southwest China.
Rich in natural resources and ecological diversity, Chengdu is home to the giant pandas. It is here that many of the world’s giant pandas live. Currently, less than one thousand giant pandas live in the wild. Of these, most are in Sichuan, many of which live in nature reserves around Chengdu.
Moreover, it acts as the connection point between Sichuan Province and other various national tourist locations including Jiuzhaigou, Emei Mountain, and the Three Gorges.
The city is celebrated around the world for its eclectic foods and its tea culture. The Wide & Narrow Alleys is a representation of Chengdu’s local essence. With tea houses and Sichuan-style restaurants as facets of its traditional charm, the city’s unique characteristics are reflected in people’s daily life. Chengdu was the first city in western China to host the Fortune Global Forum, an opportunity to present its infrastructure, innovation and investment opportunities to the Global Fortune 500 Companies, and to the world.
