Ping’le Town: Ancient Post on the Southern Silk Road

The ancient town in western Chengdu’s Qionglai City, one of the “ Top Waterside Scenic Town” in western Sichuan, features ancient style architectures, river sights and idyllic life styles.
The city of Qionglai has been a county-level administrative center since 2,300 years ago and ranked, along with Chengdu, as one of the Big Four famous cities in the ancient times, when it served as the first important post along the South Silk Road starting from Chengdu and became known for its prosperity and busy commercial activities in Sichuan.
The ancient town in western Chengdu’s Qionglai City, one of the “ Top Waterside Scenic Town” in western Sichuan, features ancient style architectures, river sights and idyllic life styles.
Ping-le, with a history of over 2, 000 years, was in the ancient times a very important post along the trading route from Chengdu to South Asia and is honored as the “Cultural Heritage Site the Qin and Han Dynasties”. Vestiges of old constructions, including the wharf, bridges, houses, stone-paved paths of hundreds of years ago, are well preserved.
The banyan trees, stone bridges, and old houses by the babbling river, Ping-le Town presents a vivid picture against the backdrop of bluish remote hills.
