Authors: Go Chengdu

Chengdu, where tradition meets modernity in perfect harmony, is permeated with cultural richness and artistic vibrancy. You can feel a strong cultural atmosphere and creative minds floating everywhere in the city.
There is an old Chinese saying going like “you may know by a handful the whole sack”. When you are in Chengdu, you can feel a strong cultural atmosphere and creative minds floating in the city, where tradition meets modernity in perfect harmony. Whether in local urban or rural areas, various human landscapes stand as an epitome of profound Chinese civilization and fascinating cultures.
In a neighborhood in Longquanyi District on Chengdu’s eastern outskirts, walls of lots of residential compounds are decorated with pictures, words and patterns themed the traditional Chinese values and virtues such as filial piety and benevolence. The images depicting stories about 24 examplars of filial piety in ancient China vividly illustrate how to respect parents and elders.
With social and economic development and dramatic change of people’s lifestyles, ways to show love for and take care of parents and elders have been changing significantly. Nowadays, going back home often and staying with their parents, cooking for their parents, and taking their parents to the cinema, etc. are good ways for younger generation to express their love to their parents.
Passers-by are always touched by stories of those living in the neighborhood who are best examples of filial piety.
