The 5th Festival of German Cinema in China (Chengdu Stop) kicked off on Nov.14 and will last till Nov.23.
The opening ceremony of the 5th Festival of German Cinema in China (Chengdu Stop) was held at Joy City on Nov.14, unveiling the 10-day movie show of a selection of twelve contemporary German films.
Dr. Klaus Schmidt (German Consul General in Chengdu), Ms. Mariette Rissenbeek (Managing Director of German Films), Rafael D. Deschka (Vice Director of the Goethe-Institut China) and German filmmakers attended the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, German Consul General in Chengdu Dr. Klaus Schmidt recommended the films due for their representation of a wide range of life in contemporary Germany. He invited Chengdu fans to participate in interaction with the German filmmakers.
Mariette Rissenbeek said the movies being screened at this year's event cover various genres, yet all focus on the themes of recent history and family life. "We hope that more and more audiences would know about German films."
German films have a lot of fans in Chengdu. During the festival, Chengdu audience also have opportunities to communicate with German filmmakers face-to-face. "Dialogue can only take place through face-to-face exchanges. We sincerely invite all of our friends to participate in the discussions," said Rafael D. Deschka.
As a key annual Sino-German cultural communications event, Festival of German Cinema in China is jointly organized by German Films and the Goethe-Institut China.
